Born Again Academy offers the Community-based Perinatal Doula Applied Intensive as a live in-person or online, cohort-based training pathway for approved nonprofit, ministry, and community partner organizations seeking to prepare doulas for service in their communities. This pathway is designed to support workforce development by helping organizations train doulas for community-based perinatal support, selected state Medicaid pathways, and agency-based doula service.
The 30-hour Applied Intensive is offered in person or live online and focuses on applied learning through guided discussion, case-based instruction, practical skill development, and final assessment. It is designed for organizations that need a more concentrated live training format to help participants become ready for service in community-based and agency-based settings. There is a minimum of 5 participants per group training.
Participants who successfully complete the intensive and pass the final assessment are awarded the title Perinatal Doula Associate and are expected to complete requirements for BAA Certification within a year in their own time, but depending on the State, the Perinatal Doula Associate may be eligible to begin work right away serving Medicaid clients.
A Perinatal Doula Associate is a participant who has successfully completed the Community-based Perinatal Doula Applied Intensive and demonstrated foundational competency in community-based perinatal doula support. This is a training-completion designation and is distinct from full certification through Born Again Academy.
The Perinatal Doula Associate pathway is available only through approved partner cohorts and is not currently offered through general public enrollment.
The Community-based Perinatal Doula Applied Intensive is designed for approved Born Again Perinatal Partners who may come from the following places:
nonprofit organizations
ministries
community-based organizations
agency-based doula programs
workforce development initiatives
organizations seeking structured doula preparation for community service or Medicaid participation
The 30-hour Applied Intensive is built to prepare participants for foundational practice in community-based perinatal doula support through:
live instruction in person or live online
applied learning activities
guided discussion
case-based instruction
practical skill development
final assessment for foundational competency
This pathway is intended to help organizations prepare doulas for immediate service while also creating a clear path toward full certification for those who later complete the remaining course and certification requirements.
Participants who wish to advance beyond the associate level may continue by completing the remaining requirements of the Community-based Perinatal Support and Childbirth Education Course. This includes completion of lectures, quizzes, textbook reading, and field projects. To complete certification, in addition to the completing of the Community-based Perinatal Support and Childbirth Education course, one must agree to the BAA Standards of Practice documents, submit to a profile review, and all additional certification requirements established by Born Again Academy.
Those who complete the full course and meet all certification requirements may become Certified Community Perinatal Doulas.
The title Perinatal Doula Associate reflects successful completion of the Applied Intensive and final assessment. It does not confer full certification, ongoing endorsement of independent professional practice, or approval under Born Again Academy’s full certification standards.
The tuition per doula for the Applied Doula Intensive is $700 per doula with a minimum cohort of 5 participants. If training is needed on-site, the Partner organization will also need to cover travel fees for the Instructor. Otherwise, training will be provided LIVE on Zoom.
